Ronan Farrow, Special Adviser to the Secretary of State on Global Youth Issues and Director of the the U.S. Department of State's Office of Global Youth Issues, discusses why the U.S. government is putting young people at the top of its agenda around the world. He says that when young people make their voices heard, it means channeling the courage that it takes in a moment of protest to make one's voice heard into the building of long-term institutions and lasting democratic structures. He also talks about how the U.S. is engaging young people around the world through Youth Councils, and stresses that the U.S government focus on youth is a refocusing of foreign policy. He also addresses youth unemployment challenges, focusing on the European context.
